I have transferred to a different section, but I wanted to take the time to express my appreciation for APM Sandra Afarin and Unit Supervisor Eva Pena.
Sandra has done amazing things here at 6363. I have been here since 2012 and would not still be a DCS worker if she and Eva had not come along. Sandra tackled what, I'm sure, where difficult challenges here and changed this building from an atmosphere of chaos to one of order and team work. Sandra makes her expectations clear but is not afraid of dialogue and makes a point to try and help people understand why changes are taking place.
Although firm and clear, Sandra has a good sense of humor and makes a point to be friendly and engaging. She is accessible and always helps one to understand policy and to become better and better at safety and risk assessments. She has worked to reduce our caseloads and to even them out among workers.
Eva saved my life. When I was totally overwhelmed with cases she came as a steady, committed supervisor who always made time for clinical and general management advice. She is also very clear with her expectations but is just as ready to offer advice and help in meeting those expectations. In my 3.5 years here, she is the only supervisor who actually did my performance review. She checks in with us and wants our feedback and input. Her long experience in various roles at DCS shows in her vast knowledge of policies and resources. I respect her and felt respected by her.
I will miss them both personally and as my leaders.
I also want to thank both of you, Director McKay and Pauline, for all the hard work you have done to turn things around at DCS. Mr. McKay, I love your messages of encouragement and communications of support when we're in the news. Pauline, I see the results of your involvement in programmatic changes and on the day-to-day level of our work lives and appreciate them. You are approachable and positive which is so supportive to us.
Because of the four of you I can now see myself having a long and satisfying career at DCS.
Very well said, Jeanette, and we agree wholeheartedly. DCS is indeed very lucky to have such exceptional leadership.
