To professionals providing direct care to babies and mothers,
The Arizona Statewide Task Force on Preventing Prenatal Exposure to Alcohol and Other Drugs has been working diligently over this past 2016 year to revise the Substance Exposed Newborn (SEN) Guidelines. The SEN Guidelines were originally created in 2008, addressed to medical providers, to create a consistent statewide approach to screening mothers and newborns. The revision has been expanded to include not only screening but treatment and long-term follow-up of mothers with substance use and their newborns.
The Task Force’s goal is for this document to be completed by September 28th, 2016 to be presented at the Governor’s Substance Abuse Task Force meeting on October 5th, 2016. The draft was recently completed and is now open for public comment for the next 10 business days. It can be found through the following link: http://azprenatal.wixsite.com/taskforce/public-comment
As a professional providing direct care to babies and mothers we value your input in the creation of our document. We hope this revised document will be inclusive and transparent. On the webpage listed above you will find the PDF document as well as a comment box below. Include your comments in that box along with your name and the name of your agency.
Thank you for your time and commitment to addressing the issue of prenatal exposure to alcohol and other drugs!
