DCS Office of Child Welfare Investigations Assisting Investigation of Tuesday's Death of Two-Year-Old – Confirms Victim and Family Had Previous Contact With Police and DCS
PHOENIX (Wednesday, September 09, 2015) - The Department of Child Safety’s Office of Child Welfare Investigations is conducting a joint investigation with the Phoenix Police Department into the death of a two-year-old child.
In late July, 2015, DCS and local law enforcement officers responded to an allegation of child abuse involving this child. That investigation did not result in criminal charges or the removal of the child for safety concerns.
“There is an active criminal investigation into the tragic death of this child. DCS will do all it can to assist local law enforcement in bringing the appropriate resolution," said Director Greg McKay. "We cannot compromise the integrity of their efforts by commenting further at this time."
McKay added, "Regarding the July investigation, we have no information at this time to believe the assigned DCS investigator acted inappropriately in response to this allegation. As always, we are committed to getting to the bottom of every tragedy and will report what is discovered when further details are known."
