father named Spencer

Host: Spencer Blake

AZ Family Anchor & Reporter

As seen on People.com (link is external), Today.com (link is external), BuzzFeed (link is external) and other national news outlets, Spencer’s road to parenthood wasn’t easy. After he and his wife tried for a baby for about a year, they were diagnosed with "unexplained infertility." After three years of unsuccessful fertility treatments, they considered adoption to expand their family.

In 2012, they adopted their first son and adopted another boy in 2014. Spencer and his wife turned their seven-year struggle with infertility into a heartwarming message of inspiration in a photo series that went viral called “infertility announcements” - helping normalize infertility. Serving as an AZ Family (link is external) anchor and reporter, Spencer continues to share Arizona stories that bring families together.

father named Edward

Edward Cassillas

2021 Casey Excellence Father Award Winner

Edward is a father of three wonderful children and is raising his youngest two as a single father. Edward became involved with the Child Welfare System nine years ago when his children were temporarily removed due to substance use and domestic violence in the home. After completing a case plan and a variety of classes, his children were returned to his care and have been with him ever since. He now aims to help struggling families succeed, so they can avoid the path he took and their families can stay intact.

A 2021 Casey Excellence for Children (link is external) Birth Father Award Winner, Edward serves as the Program and Services Development Manager at the Family Involvement Center (link is external). He’s also involved as a parent leader with the Alliance Parent Partnership Council (link is external) and is active with the Birth Parent National Network (link is external).

father named Kevin

Kevin Patterson

LGBTQA and Project Jigsaw Advocate

Kevin and his husband are proud fathers of two beautiful girls. Like many couples unable to bring a child into the world biologically, they decided to explore adoption.

When they learned how many Arizona children are living in foster and group homes who are available for adoption, they reached out to Arizona’s Children Association (link is external), who have helped many LGBTQA community members provide forever homes. In 2016, after navigating the qualification process, they adopted siblings. Using their experience to help others, they helped spearhead the work of Project Jigsaw (link is external) and continue to advocate for LGBTQA families and Arizona’s adoptable children (link is external).

father named Allan

Allan Stockellburg

Executive Director at Parent Aid Child Abuse Prevention Center

Allan is a father of two beautiful children and husband to an even more beautiful wife. He has committed his life and work to helping other fathers realize their importance in their children’s lives. Even though dads are equally important to the growth and development of their child as moms, many struggle to articulate why they matter. He wants to change that.

Allan currently serves as the Executive Director at Parent Aid Child Abuse Prevention Center (link is external) and chairs the Southern Arizona Fatherhood Collaborative (link is external) and the Pima County Parenting Coalition (link is external).

father named Thomas

Thomas Claiborn

Championship Fathering Coach

A father of three, Thomas serves as a full-time Visionary Coach and Consultant alongside his wife, at House of Clai Ventures (link is external), and as a Championship Fathering Coach (link is external) and key member of the Arizona Department of Child Safety Parent Advisory Collaborative (PAC). The growth of his family places even more importance on serving as an example of his family motto, "Living a Legacy that Reveals the Glory of our Creator."

Thomas believes the lack of cross-cultural engagement keeps us from reaching our full potential as a human race. By developing 4D Parenting – reminding our children they are unique, different and complex by design – we can model for them what it looks like to be aware of, acknowledge and appreciate our differences so we can make better decisions that benefit us all.
