If a case is moving towards guardianship or adoption. Your DCS Specialist will have a conversation with you about what's in the best interest of the child and what would be the best fit for your family.

Do kinship caregivers have to supervise visits between parents and their children?

No, kinship caregivers are not required to supervise visits. However, if the kinship caregiver is comfortable and the DCS Specialist approves, the kinship caregiver can supervise visits.

What medical and dental insurance do children in foster care have and what does it cover?

What is guardianship?

What decisions can a Title 8 guardian make?

A guardian is assigned the care, custody and supervision of a child by the court. This means the guardian has rights and responsibilities in making important decisions affecting the life of a child.

What is a guardianship subsidy?

Guardianship subsidy is a monthly payment to the guardian to help with the expenses of caring for the child.

How long does Title 8 Guardianship subsidy last?

Guardian subsidy lasts until the child turns 18 or if the guardianship is terminated or the child no longer resides with the guardian.

What is a case plan?

The Department shall facilitate the development of an individualized, family-centered, written case plan for every child, youth, and family receiving ongoing services from the Department.

Can I become a DCS licensed foster home if I have guardianship?

No, once you have guardianship, you cannot become a licensed foster home for that child.

What is a Safety Plan?

A Safety Plan is a written arrangement between the parent, guardian, and/or custodian; the responsible adult(s) who will take action to control danger threats; and the Department. The Safety Plan establishes how impending danger threats to child safety will be controlled. The Safety Plan describes safety actions that must be taken in order to control anticipated danger and prevent harm to the child.
